International Business Development Manager

Industry: retail | Sector: building materials | Reports to: Operations | Location: relevant to the position
 

The International Business Development Manager will be responsible for all activities associated with international markets in Mexico, the Caribbean and other identified countries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan business development strategy to enter the markets to supply hardware, tools, construction and building materials for opportunities identified in these markets.
  • Provide foundational advice to the Company on entry into these markets derived from research and networking with customers, distributors, competition, government officials, etc.
  • Identify and establish partnerships at government, industry, and corporate levels that will facilitate the entry, focusing first on those markets with the greatest opportunities.
  • Seek out opportunities to create relationships that could lead to potential joint ventures that would expedite entry into these markets so as to reduce cycle time
  • Evaluate the markets to determine areas of optimal opportunity and determine the products to be supplied.
  • Define business case and structure.
  • Manage supply chain and material availability in accordance with needs of the plan.
  • Execute business plan

Specific Skills/ Abilities

  • Bilingual language proficiency in English and Spanish 
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in market development
  • Proven ability to effectively interface at all levels of government, business and society in countries of interest
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Attention to detail with strong follow-up and leadership skills
  • Mature listening, communication and interpersonal skills; problem solving and decision making ability
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • PC skills

 Education/Experience

  • 5-10 years experience in the building materials business, supplying residential and commercial projects
  • 3-5 years of international experience, preferably in market development in the geographic areas defined 
  • Experience with US State Department or Commerce Department in international business would be a plus
  • BA in engineering or international business plus MBA preferred
  • Extensive travel will be required, both domestic and international.
