Director of Logistics

A well-established, grow-oriented manufacturing company is seeking a highly motivated individual to develop and implement cost effective logistics and transportation solutions to cost effectively move product and materials to support customer demand while adhering to corporate, federal, state and foreign commerce regulations, controls and governing policies.
Principle Responsibility
- Responsible for annual freight budget of $30,000,000, provide direction to traffic employees at all companies locations.
- Provide transportation and logistics direction to Traffic Management at all the companies facilities and monitor performance and adherence to corporate policies and directions.
- Select private and common carriers to cost effectively fulfill the transportation requirements of all companies facilities, maintaining customer service and profitability as a priority.
- Negotiate and maintain contractual agreements with carriers and 3rd party transportation service companies, in accordance with corporate, federal, state and foreign commerce regulations.
- Manage the auditing, processing, payment, budget and reporting of transportation charges through local traffic department staff and freight payment services, as selected.
- Manage and direct the administration and processing of required transportation documents, proof of deliveries, forms and the maintenance of records, files, reference data as to customs, tariffs, facilities, regulations, etc.
- Establish and manage through traffic department staff and 3rd party services, as selected, the necessary claim procedures and actions for damaged, misdirected or lost shipments to obtain most favorable settlement and conclusion.
- Prepare and submit related transportation operating budgets and that affect the necessary controls to operate within approved budgets.
- Manage employee performance; recommend change of status and salary adjustments when warranted and in conformance with Company policy at multi site locations.
- Submits recommendations for development of and compliance with transportation policies, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct continuous analyses to increase efficiency, lower costs and recommends cost control measures.
- Administer disciplinary measures and otherwise maintain conformance with Company rules and regulations relative to employment.
Qualifications
- Education: Requires a college graduate with degree in Business Administration, with Logistics or Transportation Management major preferred. Thorough knowledge of transportation regulations required.
- Experience: Ten to 15 years experience required in traffic/logistics management positions.
- Physical/Cognitive Requirements: Regularly uses computers, telephones and all office equipment. Occasional travels using public transportation, along with rental and private car operation is required.
